Moxibustion [moxa]

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese therapy that involves burning dried mugwort (Artemiaia Vulgaris) near certain acupuncture points or on specific regions of the body. More often, these days a smokeless alternative can be used to create a less pungent but effective treatment.
The technique aims to stimulate circulation, promote healing and balance the flow of Qu (vital energy) within the body. Moxibustion is commonly used to alleviate pain, improve digestion, boost the immune system and address various health conditions. It is usually applied indirectly, above the skin, offering a gentle and warming effect.

Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture where a small electric current applied to acupuncture needles inserted into specific points on the body. This technique enhances the stimulation of acupuncture points, providing additional therapeutic benefits compared to traditional acupuncture. Electroacupuncture is commonly used to manage pain, promote relaxation and treat various health conditions. The electrical stimulation can help modulate nerve activity, increase blood circulation and promote the release of endorphins, offering effective relief for a range of ailments.

Cupping

Cupping therapy is also part of Chinese medicine. Using glass bulbs or plastic suction cups, a vacuum is created with the cup applied to the skin. Unlike a massage where pressure is applied to the skin, tissues and muscle, the application of the cups pulls the soft tissue and muscle upwards. The sensation is not painful, more a feeling of tightness, the purpose of which is to enhance circulation and relieve muscular tension and pain. Cupping is also said to remove heat and cold from the superficial tissues with specific therapeutic value. Temporary marks may remain on the skin for a few days after this treatment.
